Offered from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. weekdays from January to April, elements of the Brandaris Model Boat Club include:
  • Model Building. The main focus of our club. Choose from a list of models to buy or bring your own. We'll build 'em, paint 'em, Sail 'em, or display 'em. Boats, Cars, Trucks, and more. You can also choose bird houses, a Room Box, or a Doll house. All these projects develop manual dexterity and skill as well as the joy of completing a project that the child builds themself. We offer expert guidance and personalized attention, and the youngsters learn to work together creatively.
  • Reading Aloud. Working with North Kingstown's Senior Center, we bring in guest readers will help us carry on this time-tested tradition, with great sea stories that we share as a group. We also encourage club members to visit North Kingstown's excellent public library where the BRANDARIS book shelf offers suggested reading on interesting maritime subjects we can discuss and share.
  • Tools of the Trade. Here we'll learn about simple hand tools and their safe use. The youth gain empowerment by becoming familiar with tools. Local contractors and experts will visit us to teach us more about the tools they use and the work they do.
  • Exploring our Neighborhood. Occasional visits to businesses and historic sites in our community expand our horizons. Young people will learn more about what is going on in our town today and about the history of times gone by. Noted local historians Tim Cranston and John McNiff will visit, giving a history lesson along with their unique insights into the makeup of the local community.
  • Staying Fit. Daily exercises and playground time are a part of what we do.
  • BRANDARIS Seal Watch. When time and tide allow we'll travel in heated comfort out to Fox Island to see the seals. Waterfront safety around our harbor hometown is the lesson of the day.
